"Gulbene - Aluksne Banitis" Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

It is my pleasure to inform that the first private railway company in Latvia "Gulbene - Aluksne Banitis" — running the narrow gauge railway in North Eastern part of the country on 3rd of January 2007 celebrates the fifth anniversary since starting an operation.

"Gulbene - Aluksne Banitis" is created by Railwaymen Society of Latvia, Town Council of Gulbene, Parish Council of Stameriena, Town Council of Aluksne and six private persons.

There are lot of changes has faced the small railway in rural countryside during the last five years. The railway has turned from neglected and unprofitable site to one of the most popular tourist attraction in Latvia. That has been done thanks to enthusiasts, local governments and the state support, as well as thanks to great assistance from Fedecrail, NERHT and the EU programme Culture 2000 SteamRail.Net project.
